E-1027 — Eileen Gray — Architecture & Design

E-1027 is a modernist villa located near Monaco, conceived as a complete manifesto in built form. Designed down to its smallest detail, it was Eileen Gray’s first architectural project and the clearest expression of her radical belief that a house must serve the person living in it. An Irish architect and designer she redefined modernism by prioritizing movement, light, adaptability, and human scale, anticipating principles that later became central to functionalist design. She is now firmly recognized as one of the decisive pioneers of 20th-century architecture.

This composition features blue hydrangea, anthurium, Vendela rose, green trick, celosia, chrysanthemum, and Cinerea eucalyptus. It mirrors that synthesis — marine blues, sun-warmed ochres, sculptural greens — anchored here on the Côte d’Azur, where her vision took form in the Riviera light.
