Infinity net

Infinity net — Yayoi Kusama — Visual arts

Infinity Nets began in 1950s New York as Kusama’s quiet rebellion: endless hand-painted loops covering the canvas until it lost center, edge, ego. Yayoi Kusama — Japanese avant-garde force and precursor to Minimalism. In late-1950s New York she was staging radical performances before performance art was institutionalized, and later building immersive installations that anticipated today’s experiential art economy by decades. Few living artists have altered both museum practice and popular culture at that scale. This composition of pink hydrangea functions the same way: continuous surface with repetition dissolving edges and softness multiplied until it becomes immersive — a floral Infinity Net in three dimensions.
